Training

Regular show jumping clinics are held throughout the year at Duckhurst, near Staplehurst, generally on a Friday evening. These are taken by Neil Boorman, a popular and respected trainer & competitor, and are for riders who are reasonably confident around a course of 2’6 upwards with some braver groups going up to 3’9.

Dates and contact details for joining these sessions are in the diary section. Also see the section on the “Street Farm Rallies”.

XC clinics are held at various venues from March through to October. Courses used include Chilham Park near Canterbury, Lodge Farm at Matfield and Bull Farm at Cranbrook. Starter / refresher sessions are also held at Street Farm Burham in the training field. Training is taken by visiting, outside, instructors and also by Wendy Neath. We aim to have groups of 3 or 4 and to tailor training to members needs – some want to compete up to RC Open level but there are also plenty of us who enjoy a XC school for a change of scene for horses who may be competing in other disciplines.

Dates & contact details are in the diary section. For more information contact Wendy Neath

Dressage clinics are held at various locations according to demand.

Trainers who regularly take these clinics include Leanne Wall, a BD list judge and BYRDS trainer. For current  information on these please contact the club secretary.

Street Farm Rallies
Trec

The club usually runs TREC training once or twice a year. TREC has now become an established and popular activity; most horses and riders can take part at Level 1, however, at the higher levels, it is a demanding test of all-round riding and orienteering skills. Riders have to negotiate a course of obstacles representing challenges which might be encountered when out hacking / trekking – this may include small jumps, leading down banks or ducking under simulated low branches with marks gained for style and completion and no elimination incurred if a rider chooses, for example, not to jump.

There is also a control of paces section in walk & canter and an orienteering section from 12 km [level 1] up to 40 km plus with bearings and grid references [level 4].

Training days have covered dismounted map reading and obstacle practice at a number of local venues.

Future training will be listed in the diary section. For more information on TREC contact Wendy Neath
